About Helen Beard and Felt Culture

Born in Birmingham in 1971, Helen Beard studied at the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. After graduating, Beard went on to have a 15-year career as a wardrobe stylist and assistant art director in the film industry. She continued her artistic practise alongside her career, working in diverse mediums including paint, collage and needlepoint. Using her knowledge of cinematography, Beard employs tight angles and close crops of the body when framing her works in order to portray the act of sex with a striking level of intimacy.

Beard’s works portray the diversity of sexuality, allocating attention to experiences that are often censored by the mainstream. Since 2000, Beard has exhibited in numerous group shows and a solo show, including ‘It’s Her Factory’ at Unit London in 2019 and the artist's first solo exhibition at Reflex Amsterdam.

Sarah Lewis is a London-based filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist with an MA in Artists Film and Moving Image from Goldsmiths College, London. She works in the fields of video art, narrative film and installation. Her work has been presented theatrically, via broadcast and in art galleries. She is a co-founder of Ballpark Collective who work to create opportunities for moving-image artists. Her first feature length documentary, “No Ifs Or Buts”, premiered at the BFI London Film Festival.

As a designer, Sarah works under her label, Felt Culture - collaborating with artists such as the acclaimed Helen Beard.

Donation: 10% of all proceeds from the release will be donated to RISE, a Brighton based charity that supports women and LGBTQ+ members of the community who have been affected by domestic abuse and violence.

We aim to deliver your bag to you within 2 weeks.

Our beautiful bags are carefully packaged in a plastic free brown paper sack wrapped and filled with acid free tissue in its own bespoke dust bag to ensure the safety of your new piece.

You may also choose to collect your bag in person from the gallery. We will ensure that your bag is packed and ready to go on your arrival.

Please note that if the work is being shipped internationally from the UK, that you may be liable to pay import/duty charges which are not covered by our shipping fee.

Returns

We offer a 14 day returns policy on all of our editions, on the basis that these are returned to us in the condition in which they were dispatched. If you have a query about a work that you have bought please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will assist you in the best way that we can.

Caring for your Bag

Here are a few tips on how to best take care of your new bag!

Your new fabric bag will arrived wrapped in a secure packaging, with extra padding to ensure that it is not damaged during transit. Once received, make sure to store your new bag in a safe and clean environment.

Please note that the due to the felt of the bag, the fabric components are particularly hard to clean - if there is a spill, the liquid will seep into the fabric.

If your bag does need cleaning, please consult a professional cleaning institute who will be able to employ pH- neutral carbon dioxide solutions for cleaning.

Please avoid applying soap to the bag and do not place in the washing machine.
