About Liz Markus

Liz Markus’s work is largely informed by her experience growing up as a Gen X, influenced by the rawness of punk, grunge music and the culture of the era. Her process is immediate and intuitive, employing bold and colourful washes of acrylic paint over raw canvas, but often returns to key visual reference points such as dinosaurs, hippies, cavemen, monsters and depictions of fashion. Markus’s artworks are motivated by the conflict between psychological repression and liberation, a theme that pervades her practice as a whole. In this spirit, the artist allows the subconscious to be a crucial guiding presence within her works.

Markus lives and works in Los Angeles. She has exhibited widely, presenting solo shows at Maruani Mercier (Brussels, Belgium), Nathalie Karg (New York, NY), Zieher Smith (New York, NY), White Columns (New York, NY), Loyal Gallery (Stockholm), and other notable international galleries.

Caring for your Print

Here are a few tips on how to best take care of your new print!

All our prints are carefully wrapped and delivered to you in packing tubes for safe transport. Once you receive your print, remove it from the tube at your earliest convenience and store the piece flat. This can be flat packed between some cardboard or plywood, or weighted down on the four corners, preferably with soft objects. Try to avoid leaving your new print rolled for too long!

When framing the work, we always opt for a frame with Art Glass. This may be a little more expensive at first, but it's worth it - Art Glass will keep your print in pristine condition across the years and will ensure the colours always stay true.

Try to place your work in an environment with a normal temperature. Extreme temperature or humidity can have an adverse effect on your beautiful print, so be sure to keep it protected! We always recommend framing the work behind glass as a great way to keep it protected from any adverse environmental conditions.
